Law on Road Traffic prohibits operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The following is the penalties for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol in 2022, Vietnam.

Fines for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol in Vietnam (illustration)
Penalties for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol in Vietnam as follows:
- For operators of cars and vehicles similar to cars:
+ A fine ranging from 4,000,000 VND to 6,000,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 50 mg per 100 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.25 mg per liter of breath.
+ A fine ranging from 16,000,000 VND to 18,000,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 50 mg per 80 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.25 mg to 0.4 mg per liter of breath.
+ A fine ranging from 30,000,000 VND to 40,000,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 80 mg per 100 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.4 mg per liter of breath.
- For operators of motorbikes, mopeds (including electric scooters), motorcycle-like vehicles:
+ A fine ranging from 2,000,000 VND to 3,000,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 50 mg per 100 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.25 mg per liter of breath.
+ A fine ranging from 4,000,000 VND to 5,000,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 50 mg per 80 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.25 mg to 0.4 mg per liter of breath.
+ A fine ranging from 6,000,000 VND to 8,000,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 80 mg per 100 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.4 mg per liter of breath.
- For drivers of bicycles, motorbikes (including electric bicycles), other rudimentary vehicle operators:
+ A fine ranging from 80,000 VND to 100,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 80 mg per 100 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.4 mg per liter of breath.
+ A fine ranging from 300,000 VND to 400,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 50 mg per 80 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.25 mg to 0.4 mg per liter of breath.
+ A fine ranging from 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 80 mg per 100 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.4 mg per liter of breath.
- For operators of tractors and special-use vehicles:
+ A fine ranging from 3,000,000 VND to 5,000,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 50 mg per 100 ml of blood or BrAC does not exceed 0.25 mg per liter of breath.
+ A fine ranging from 6,000,000 VND to 8,000,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 50 mg per 80 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.25 mg to 0.4 mg per liter of breath.
+ A fine ranging from 16,000,000 VND to 18,000,000 VND shall be imposed on driver operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol but BAC does not exceed 80 mg per 100 ml of blood or BAC does not exceed 0.4 mg per liter of breath.
