Things to know about the Vietnam National High School Graduation Exam in 2017

Compared to previous years, the Vietnam National High School Graduation Exam in 2017 continued to see changes: From the organization of the exam, to the number of tests, and subjects. Below are the notable new points.

1 Exam Registration and Admission Period From April 1 to April 20, 2017
- Candidates register for the exam (unlimited number of majors, schools, and aspirations) at units regulated by the local Department of Education and Training.
- After April 20, candidates are not allowed to change the exam site and information about the registered exam/test subjects.
2 Examination Period 2.5 days. Starting from June 22, 23 and the morning of June 24, 2017.
 
  • June 22: Literature (Morning), Mathematics (Afternoon);
  • June 23: Natural Science combination (Morning); Foreign Language (Afternoon)
  • June 24: Social Science combination (Morning)
3 Exam Subjects 5 exams. Specifically:
 
  • 03 independent exams: Mathematics, Literature, Foreign Language
  • 02 combination exams: Natural Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and Social Science (High school: History, Geography, Civic Education - Continuing education: History, Geography)
4 Encouraging students to register for both elective combination exams Encourage students, besides taking the compulsory exams (Mathematics, Literature, Foreign Language), to register for both elective combination exams (Natural Science and Social Science) to increase the chances of university and college admission and to promote comprehensive learning.
5 Exam Format Multiple-choice (except Literature: Essay)
6 Review and Exam Contents The exam content lies within the 12th-grade high school program. The questions vary from basic to assess high school graduation eligibility and differentiated questions to determine university and college admissions.
7 Exam Questions Each candidate in the same room has a unique exam code.
8 Exam Centers Each province/city organizes one exam center. Exam sites are located at high schools or groups of high schools in districts/towns.
9 Exam Invigilators and Markers Exam invigilators and markers include high school teachers and university, college staff and lecturers.
10 Using the Benchmark Score for Admission The Ministry of Education and Training continues to stipulate the minimum quality benchmark (floor score) based on the results of the national high school exam for universities to build their admission plans.

Additionally, please note the following timelines:

- Before June 2, 2017: Heads of exam registration units publicly announce candidates who are not eligible for the exam.

- Before June 7, 2017: Exam registration units complete the printing and delivering of the exam notification slips to candidates.

- July 7, 2017: The exam council announces and informs the results to candidates

- No later than July 14, 2017: Departments of Education and Training announce the results of high school graduation recognition for candidates.- No later than July 17, 2017: High school principals issue temporary graduation certificates, return school reports, and other types of certificates (original copies) to candidates.

- From July 8 to 17, 2017: Exam registration units receive re-evaluation applications and compile re-evaluation lists from the date of result announcement.

- No later than July 24, 2017: Exam councils must complete the re-evaluation of exam papers (if any).

- No later than July 26, 2017: Departments of Education and Training complete the recognition of high school graduation after re-evaluation.
