1. What is the limit to the number of lessons?
According to Article 6 Regulations on the working regime for high school teachers promulgated together with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT (amended by Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT), the limit to the number of lessons is the number of theoretical or practical lessons each teacher must teach in a week.
2. To reduce the limit to the number of lessons for teachers who are concurrently performing professional jobs in Vietnam
Article 8 of Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT (amended by Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT) stipulates the regime of reducing the teaching time limit for teachers who hold part-time professional jobs as follows:
- Classroom teachers at the primary level are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week; at the middle and high school levels, 4 periods per week are reduced.
- Classroom teachers at ethnic minority boarding schools in middle and high schools are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods per week.
+ Classroom teachers in specialized schools and dayboarding schools are entitled to a reduction of 4 hours per week.
+ Classroom teachers in schools and special education classes are entitled to a three-hour weekly reduction.
- Classroom teachers at pre-university schools are entitled to a reduction of 3 hours per week.
- The teacher in charge of the subject room is entitled to a three-period reduction per subject per week.
- Teachers in charge of whole-school cultural and physical activities, school gardens, school workshops, equipment rooms, and libraries (if these tasks do not have full-time staff) will be deducted from 2-2 and a half-3 hours per week, depending on workload and as determined by the principal.
- The head of the department is entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week.
- Specialist vice team is reduced by 1 lesson per week.
- The teacher-coordinator head of the university preparatory school's function department is entitled to a three-period weekly reduction.
Teachers and the deputy head of the university preparatory school's function department are entitled to a reduction of 1 hour per week.
3. To reduce the limit to the number of lessons for teachers who are concurrently working for the Party and mass organizations in Vietnam
The regime of reducing the teaching time limit for teachers concurrently working for the Party, mass organizations, and other organizations in the school is prescribed in Article 9 of Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT (amended by Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT) as follows:
- Teachers cum Party Secretary, Party Cell Secretary (where no party committee is established) Grade I schools will lose 4 hours per week, while other schools will lose 3 hours per week.
- Teachers who are concurrently engaged in trade union work shall assess the teaching level according to the provisions of Circular 08/2016/TT-BGDDT.
- Teachers who work as school-level union secretaries and deputy secretaries are entitled to regimes and policies as prescribed in Decision 13/2013/QD-TTg.
- Teachers, school council presidents, and school council clerks are entitled to a reduction of 2 hours per week.
- Teachers and the head of the school's inspection committee are entitled to a reduction of 2 hours per week.
- To ensure the quality of teaching and the quality of work, each teacher must not hold more than 2 concurrent positions and enjoy the reduced teaching time limit of the position with the highest number of periods.
4. To reduce the limit to the number of lessons for other subjects in Vietnam
- Teachers hired on a contract for the first time will have their hours cut by two hours per week.
- Female teachers with children aged 12 months or younger are entitled to a weekly reduction of three periods (high school and junior high school teachers) and four periods (elementary school teachers).
- Female teachers of pre-university schools with children aged 12 months or younger will have their hours reduced by 3 hours per week.
