Students with achievements in study and practice will be rewarded, otherwise, students who violate will be considered for disciplinary action. So, currently, in what ways are schools in Vietnam allowed to handle students?
According to Clause 2 Article 38 of the Circular No. 32/2020/TT-BGDĐT of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, students making a mistake during the learning and training process shall be corrected or disciplined in the following ways:
- Give the student a reminder, directly support them in correcting their mistake.
- Reprimand the student, inform the student’s parent(s) to have the parent(s) cooperate in supporting the student in correcting their mistake.
- Suspend the student’s study at school for a definite period and take other correcting measures according to regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam.
Previously, according to Clause 2 Article 42 of the Circular No. 12/2011/TT-BGDĐT of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, students who violate the regulations in the process of learning, training may be advised or handled discipline under the following forms:
- Reprimand in front of the class and school;
- Reprimand and notification to the family;
- Warn to record in school reports;
- Temporary suspension from school.
Thus, from November 01, 2020, providing that the Circular No. 12/2011/TT-BGDĐT replaced by the Circular No. 32/2020/TT-BGDĐT of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, forms of student sanctions have changed, notably, schools in Vietnam are no longer allowed to discipline students in the form of reprimand in front of the class and school as previously regulated. Currently, schools can only punish students in the form of reminders, reprimands, notices to parents or temporary suspension of school, etc.
Besides, teachers, secondary schools and education authorities shall reward students with learning and training achievements in the following ways:
- Commend them in front of the class or the whole school.
- Grant them titles for students according to regulations.
- Grant certificates and certificates of merit to students with outstanding achievements or exceptional improvement in learning or emulation movements and competition winners according to regulations and with permission from the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Other ways to reward.
The commendation in front of the class and the whole school for students with good achievements will encourage the spirit of learning and training of students, thereby creating motivation for students to strive for more. However, punishing students in the form of reprimand in front of the class, in front of the whole school, on the contrary, will create confusion, fear and even pressure for students when they come to school, which should not be in an educational environment.
