The 2017 Fisheries Law stipulates that Fishery Inspectors are officials appointed to the rank of Fishery Inspector. Fishery Inspectors are provided with inspection cards, uniforms, badges, insignias, fishery inspection signs, and specialized equipment.
Fishery inspectors shall have the following powers and responsibilities:
- Request relevant agencies, organizations, and individuals to provide necessary information and documents for inspection, examination, control, investigation, detection, and handling of violations of the laws on the exploitation and protection of aquatic resources;- Impose administrative sanctions and apply measures to prevent administrative violations as prescribed by law;- Use weapons, support tools, specialized means, and equipment as prescribed by law;- When performing duties, they must wear uniforms, badges, insignias, and fishery inspection credentials as prescribed;- Comply with the law and be accountable to the head of the direct management agency and the law for the performance of the assigned tasks and powers.
Law on Fisheries 2017 also provides for fishery inspection collaborators as follows:
- Fishery inspection collaborators are Vietnamese citizens who provide information and support the activities of fishery inspectors.- Fishery inspection collaborators are reimbursed by the Fishery Inspectorate for operation costs and enjoy policies on providing information in accordance with the law; their information sources are kept confidential; their legitimate rights and interests are protected in accordance with the law.
Fishery Inspection is a specialized force of the State, performing the function of law enforcement in Vietnam and related international treaties to which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a member concerning the exploitation and protection of aquatic resources. (Article 87 Law on Fisheries 2017)
