The Ordinance on Veterans and the Vietnam Veterans Association 2005 was promulgated by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on October 7, 2005, and has been in effect since January 1, 2006.
Ordinance establishes December 6 as the traditional day for Veterans.
Clause 2, Article 3 of Decree 150/2006/ND-CP stipulates that the traditional day for Veterans aims to:
- Honor and acknowledge the significant contributions of Veterans in the resistance wars against foreign invaders for national liberation, performing international duties, building, and protecting the Fatherland, reflecting the nation's gratitude and remembrance;- Encourage different generations of Veterans to maintain and promote the tradition of "Uncle Ho's Soldiers," actively participating and contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland; setting exemplary standards in life, serving as bright examples for educating the younger generation.
Additionally, it should:
- Timely organize activities to commemorate the traditional day of Veterans; promote the image of Veterans and the Vietnam Veterans Association;- Arrange meetings and visits for Veterans in difficult circumstances and engage in other activities to motivate and assist Veterans.
