What has Vietnam achieved in the recent fight against Covid-19? (Illustrative photo)
Resolution 129/NQ-CP stated the achievements that Vietnam has achieved in the recent fight against Covid-19 as follows:
- with much determination and active participation of the whole political system, enterprises and citizens from all parts of the country, we have managed to contain most of the COVID-19 outbreak; while promoting socio-economic recovery and development.
- Activities in celebration of the 75th anniversary of August Revolution and Independence Day were organized in a solemn and meaningful manner, which motivated people and strengthened their trust in the leadership of the Communist Party and the State.
- Achievements:
Regarding economy:
- Macroeconomic situation is stable; inflation is under control; average consumer price index (CPI) of the first 8 months is only 3,96% (target set by the National Assembly is 4%).
- Large balances of the economy are maintained.
- Interest rates continue to fall; exchange rates and foreign exchange market are stable, foreign exchange reserves continue to increase.
- Stock market shows signs of recovery.
- While global trade suffers heavy loss, Vietnam’s export value of the first 8 months reaches USD 174 billion, increasing 1,5% compared to this time last year; trade surplus logs almost USD 12 billion, in which, the domestic sector remains the highlight with an increase of 15,3%.
- Disbursement of state budget-sourced investment capital of the first 8 months meets 47% of target (37,9% at this time last year).
- Total foreign direct investment (FDI) of the first 8 months records almost USD 20 billion. Number of enterprises established in August rises by 1,6%, registered capital increases by 20,7%; in the first 8 months, Vietnam has 88,7 thousand new enterprises and 32,6 thousand enterprises resuming their operations, increasing by 27,9%.
Regarding agriculture: Agricultural and rural production grows steadily and reaps good crops; export rice volume and price both rise compared to this time last year.
Regarding society:
- People’s living conditions improve; number of hungry households decreases by 75,3% compared to this time last year.
- Healthcare for citizens and welfare policies remain the focus.
Regarding education: The high school graduation examination took place safely in the pandemic.
Other areas:
- On the 2020 global innovation index, Vietnam tops the group of 29 economies with the same income level and is in the top 50 economies with most significant achievements on the index in chronological order.
- National defense, security, and social order and safety were maintained.
- National defense and security, public order and social safety are preserved. Traffic safety undergoes positive change with fewer traffic accidents and casualties.
- Foreign affairs and international integration are further promoted; amidst the pandemic, Vietnam fulfills the roles as the ASEAN Chair, non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and AIPA 41 Chair properly; and continues to cooperate and assist other countries with the fight against COVID-19.
However, in addition to the achievements, our country's economy continues to face many difficulties, affected by risks and challenges from both inside and outside.
