What Equipment is Included in a Courtroom?

On July 28, 2017, the Supreme People's Court issued Circular 01/2017/TT-TANDTC specifying equipment in courtrooms.

Circular 01 stipulates that the courtroom must display the National Emblem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; the position podium of the Council of Judges, the Council for Civil, Bankruptcy Affairs Resolution, the Presiding Judge, and the presiding officer of the hearing; tables, chairs, podium for testimonies, separating barriers, the courtroom code of conduct board, nameplates indicating the titles of procedural conductors, nameplates indicating the status of participants in proceedings, lighting system, electric fans, and sound system.

Depending on the specific conditions of each Court, the courtroom may also be equipped with recording devices, cameras, television screens, computers, internet networks, online broadcasting networks, and other equipment to serve adjudicating processes.

Additionally, Circular 01 also stipulates that tables, chairs, and wooden backdrops for setting up the National Emblem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, podium for testimonies, and separating barriers in the courtroom must meet the following standards:

- Color: brown;- Material: natural wood or industrial wood.

The courtroom code of conduct board must have a blue background with white text and be placed outside the main door of the courtroom; nameplates indicating the titles of procedural conductors must have a red background with yellow text; nameplates indicating the status of other participants in proceedings must have a blue background with white text.

Furthermore, Circular 01 also prescribes the dimensions of the National Emblem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, wooden backdrops for the National Emblem, the position podium of the Council of Judges, the Council for Civil, Bankruptcy Affairs Resolution, the Presiding Judge, and the presiding officer of the hearing; tables, chairs, podium for testimonies, separating barriers, the courtroom code of conduct board, nameplates indicating the titles of procedural conductors, and nameplates indicating the status of participants in proceedings in accordance with legal regulations.
