What are the duties of the Vietnam Veterans Association?

Vietnam Veterans Association is a political-social organization within the political system led by the Communist Party of Vietnam. It represents the will and aspirations of veterans, serves as the political foundation of the people's government, and is a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

According to the Veteran Ordinance and the Vietnam Veterans Association 2005, the Vietnam Veterans Association performs the following tasks:

- Participate in building and protecting the Communist Party, government, socialist policies; combating all schemes and sabotaging activities of hostile forces; opposing viewpoints contrary to the Party's guidelines, State's laws; implementing legal provisions on grassroots democracy, fighting bureaucracy, corruption, wastefulness, and social evils; supervising the activities of state agencies and officials according to the law.- Participate in socio-economic development, strengthen national defense and security; propose to state agencies and local authorities on the formulation and implementation of policies and laws related to veterans and the Vietnam Veterans Association.- Gather, unite, and motivate veterans to practice and maintain revolutionary qualities and ethics, enhance political will, understand the Party's guidelines and State laws, knowledge of economy, culture, science, and technology; fulfill citizenship duties; assemble former military personnel who have completed military service to promote the "Uncle Ho's soldiers" tradition, participate in clubs, veterans' liaison committees, and revolutionary movements at the grassroots level.- Organize to take care of and assist veterans in improving their material and spiritual life, developing family economy, eliminating hunger, reducing poverty, and legally enriching themselves; organize charitable activities for veterans to support and help each other in life.- Protect the legitimate rights and interests of veterans; propagate, disseminate, and educate laws, provide legal advice, and legal assistance to veterans.- Conduct people-to-people external activities, contributing to the implementation of the foreign policy of the Communist Party and the State.

Additionally, the Vietnam Veterans Association must cooperate with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and other member organizations of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, military agencies to educate the younger generation in patriotism, revolutionary heroism, self-reliance, and resilience.
