Kim Linh

This is the content stipulated by the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Vietnamese Nationality 2014, passed by the National Assembly at its 7th session on June 24, 2014.

According to the provisions of this Law, Vietnamese citizens residing abroad who have not lost their Vietnamese nationality before July 1, 2009, still retain their Vietnamese nationality.

The Amendment and Supplement to the Nationality Law 2014 abolished the requirement to register for retention of nationality within 5 years from July 1, 2009.

Vietnamese citizens residing abroad who have not lost their Vietnamese nationality but do not have documents proving their Vietnamese nationality, if requested, shall register with the Vietnamese representative office abroad to be recognized as having Vietnamese nationality and be issued a Vietnamese passport.

See detailed procedures for registration to be recognized as having Vietnamese nationality and to be issued a Vietnamese passport at Amendment and Supplement to some articles of the Nationality Law of Vietnam 2014 and Decree 97/2014/ND-CP.
