Vietnam: What are the eligibility requirements for graduation in college-level crop science?

Recently, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam issued Circular 23/2019/TT-BLDTBXH promulgating regulations on the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements for graduates at the intermediate level and college level in disciplines and professions related to production, processing, and agriculture.

According to the regulations issued alongside Circular 23/2019/TT-BLD-TBXH, the knowledge required for graduates from college-level crop science in Vietnam includes:

- Present the foundational knowledge of the Crop Science discipline such as plant physiology, botany, plant genetics, microbiology, agricultural meteorology, and plant varieties...

- Present the basic principles in seed production such as conservation, exploitation of genetic resources, principles of plant breeding, experimentation and propagation of plant varieties;

- Demonstrate knowledge about types of fertilizers and fertilizer application methods;

- Describe the steps in the technical process of cultivating various crops;

- Analyze plant protection measures;

- Present the basic principles and methods in harvesting, preliminary processing, and storage of agricultural products;

- Present basic knowledge about the transfer of scientific and technical progress in agricultural production;

- Present basic knowledge about politics, culture, society, law, national defense and security, and physical education as prescribed.

In addition, skills required for graduates from college-level crop science in Vietnam include:

- Apply appropriate methods of breeding and propagation for each type of crop;

- Use fertilizers effectively and flexibly according to soil conditions, climate, and crop objects;

- Implement and guide the implementation of cultivation techniques for various agricultural crops;

- Flexibly apply plant protection measures: cultivation techniques, biological, physical, and chemical methods, and integrated pest management;

Properly implement the technical processes of harvesting, preliminary processing, and storage of agricultural products;

- Conduct activities related to the transfer of scientific and technical progress;

- Use basic information technology according to regulations; apply information technology in some professional tasks within the discipline and profession;

- Use basic foreign languages, achieving level 2/6 in the Vietnamese Foreign Language Competency Framework; apply foreign languages in some professional tasks within the discipline and profession.

Moreover, graduates from college-level crop science in Vietnam must possess good ethical qualities and a proper understanding of the profession, exhibit cooperative attitudes with colleagues, respect the law and workplace regulations; be honest, have a high sense of discipline, and be ready to undertake assigned tasks; have a sense of learning and training to improve professional expertise; be able to work independently or in groups, handle complex tasks in changing work environments, take personal and group responsibility, and evaluate the quality of work after completion as well as the results of team members.
