Vietnam: Unexploded ordnance victimes shall receive support for reclearance

This is a featured content specified in Decree No. 18/2019/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government on management and clearance of unexploded ordnance (UXO), which replaces Decision No. 96/2006/QD-TTg.

According to Vietnam’s new regulations, activities for supporting UXO victims include:

- These victims shall receive healthcare and insurance support from the State if they have an accident and shall be entitled to the medical insurance policy as specified in the regulations on medical insurance.

- Receive support for their orthopedic surgeries and rehabilitation treatments.

- Receive support for educational and vocational training and be given jobs.

- Receive support for livelihood and for using social work services.

- Citizens of UXO-contaminated areas shall receive support for reclearance and economic development.

- Children of UXO victims shall receive education support for being poor or near-poor households or having extremely difficult conditions.

Relevant provisions can be found in Decree No. 18/2019/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government, which takes effect from March 20, 2019.
