Vietnam: Unexploded ordnance investigation and survey are compulsory activities

This is a content specified in Decree No. 18/2019/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government on management and clearance of unexploded ordnance (UXO).

According to Decree No. 18/2019/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government, investigation and survey are compulsory activities which are carried out to collect information about the pollution status of UXO and shall be done before the UXO clearance projects and components are developed. To be specific:

- Information collected from the investigation and survey shall be sent to the National Bomb and Mine Database Center for retention and making of map of UXO-contaminated areas. Information from the previous investigation and survey shall be collected and used as technical specifications during the investigation, survey and planning of UXO clearance projects.

- While carrying out UXO investigation and survey, organizations shall fully apply the national standards for investigation and survey on pollution status of weapons thereof, provide related documents, share information for the local government, other agencies and organizations upon receiving their requests and shall take the legal responsibility and pay compensation for the damages caused by the investigation and survey results.
