Recently, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in Vietnam issued Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulating the minimum knowledge and competency requirements for graduates at intermediate and college levels for disciplines and professions in the mining engineering and other engineering fields.
Vietnam: Students pursuing intermediate-level underground mining technology are required to complete 60 credits (illustrative image)
Under Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, intermediate-level underground mining technology in Vietnam is a profession in which practitioners perform useful mineral extraction through underground methods; simultaneously maintaining the newly mined space and carrying out mine pressure control tasks to ensure safety conditions for the production process at mineral seams of any thickness and slope, meeting the level 4 requirements in the Vietnamese Qualifications Framework. Students pursuing intermediate-level underground mining technology must undertake a minimum of 1,700 hours (equivalent to 60 credits).
Additionally, practitioners also participate in digging and maintaining preparation tunnels for the mining area. This ensures the capacity for development and timely accessibility to the advancements in underground mining technology.
Underground mining technology practitioners primarily work in underground tunnels at mines extracting minerals through underground methods with the main tasks of: breaking soil, rock, and minerals (manually, semi-mechanically, mechanically, or by drilling and blasting); loading soil, rock, and minerals onto transport equipment using manual tools or mechanical devices; transporting soil, rock, and minerals via chutes, carts, conveyors, scrapers, or electric trains; transporting materials manually or using specialized equipment; maintaining mining tunnels with various supports such as wooden, metal supports, hydraulic frames, or hydraulic shield structures; maintaining preparation tunnels (tunnel openings) with wooden or metallic supports, anchors, or concrete; reinforcing weakened supports; repairing supports or tunnel sections with damaged or excessively deformed supports; participating in handling incidents during the production process such as tunnel collapses, gas explosions, or underground water bursts.
Details can be found at Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH effective on February 10, 2019.
