Recently, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in Vietnam issued Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulating the minimum knowledge and competency requirements for graduates at intermediate and college levels for disciplines and professions in the mining engineering and other engineering fields.

Under Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates from college-level underground mining technology in Vietnam must acquire the following skills:
- Read drilling and support passports for preparation and extraction tunnels;
- Disassemble and install scraper, slide, rail, and pulling winch equipment in preparation and extraction tunnels;
- Operate and resolve issues with loading and transporting equipment in preparation and extraction tunnels;
- Erect various types of wooden supports, metal supports, single hydraulic props – chock systems, hydraulic shields, and extraction tunnel support frames;
- Operate and relocate different types of movable hydraulic shields, interconnected chain hydraulic shields, and extraction tunnel support frames;
- Organize and proficiently ensure safety checks at work positions as regulated;
- Organize and carry out complex reinforcement tasks in extraction tunnels such as adjusting hydraulic supports, replacing support pillars, reclaiming coal, and managing mine pressure;
- Skillfully organize and perform the main tasks in a preparatory tunnel excavation cycle or an extraction cycle;
- Drill holes in tunnel faces using handheld drills, drill stands, and drill vehicles;
- Proficiently use individual self-rescue equipment and mine safety and rescue equipment according to the appropriate procedures and handle emergency rescue situations;
- Organize and perform escape tasks and lead escape operations in the event of incidents, and prevent accidents in underground mining in Vietnam;
- Develop drilling and support passports and blast hole drilling passports;
- Organize, supervise, guide, and approve the activities of groups or teams executing tasks during a production shift;
- Train and improve the professional knowledge and skills for lower-level workers;
- Use basic information technology as regulated; exploit, process, and apply information technology in the professional work of the discipline and profession;
- Achieve basic foreign language proficiency, reaching level 2/6 in the Vietnamese Foreign Language Competency Framework; apply foreign language skills in the professional work of the discipline and profession.
