Vietnam’s regulations on specimen marking applied from January 01, 2019

This is a content stipulated in Circular No. 27/2018/TT-BNNPTNT on management and tracing of forest products, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam on November 16, 2018.

According to Circular No. 27/2018/TT-BNNPTNT of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, specimen marking is prescribed as follows:

- In the cases where specimens of species included in CITES Appendices are subject to CITES marking requirements, such requirements shall be complied with.

- The marking can be carried out using a stamp, code, barcode, QR code, electronic chip, ring, piercing or another material (hereinafter referred to as “marking label”) that contains tracing information.

- The specimen owner shall decide on the material, size and form of the marking label in conformity with characteristics and types of specimens and regulations of the law on goods labels.

- The marking label shall be attached directly to a specimen in a manner that is easily identified with the naked eye or the reader.

- After the marking is completed, within 01 working day, every forest product owner shall specify all marking information in a physical or electronic specimen marking book and take responsibility for the truthfulness, clarity and accuracy of the marking label.
