Vietnam: Required skills for graduates of Ship engine repair, Level 5 of VQF

From February 10, 2019, Circular 47/2018/TT-BLDTBXH issued by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs of Vietnam on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate (Level 4 of VQF) and college (Level 5 of VQF) levels in mechanical engineering sectors will come into force.

According to the regulation on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate and college levels in Ship engine repair issued together with Circular 47/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the minimum skills required for graduates of Ship engine repair, Level 5 of in Vietnam are specified as follows:

- Be able to read drawings, identify faults, calculate the volume, and choose the appropriate repair and assembly methods;

- Proficiently use tools and equipment in the process of maintaining, repairing common faults, and assembling machines;

- Regularly maintain, periodically maintain, and repair faults of various types of diesel engines and related machines installed on ships, ensuring technical requirements;

- Skillfully operate diesel engines and related machines installed on ships according to technical requirements;

- Use different types of tools and measuring equipment during the repair and assembly of marine engines;

- Inspect and evaluate the product quality as assigned;

- Carry out acceptance and handover of products according to the correct procedure;

- Predict and handle arising issues during the repair and assembly process;

- Organize and manage a repair team and provide training and guidance to lower-level workers;

- Control the impact of equipment on the general environment;

- Implement occupational safety and hygiene measures and handle emergency aid situations at workplaces;

- Use basic information technology according to regulations; exploit, process, and apply information technology in professional work in the field;

- Use basic foreign language skills, reaching level 2/6 in the Vietnamese Language Competency Framework; apply foreign languages to professional work in the field.
