Vietnam: Report policies on saltwater intrusion monitoring results

This content is stipulated in Circular 39/2016/TT-BTNMT issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment concerning technical regulations on monitoring and investigating saltwater intrusion in Vietnam, effective from February 10, 2017.

Under Article 11 of Circular 39/2016/TT-BTNMT, the report policies on saltwater intrusion monitoring results in Vietnam are as follows:

1. Report

Monthly salinity measurement report: The salinity measurement points prepare monthly reports on the measurement and send them to the managing unit.

Summary salinity measurement report:

- The managing unit prepares a summary report on the salinity measurements of the monitoring period.

- The monthly and summary salinity measurement reports are prepared according to Template in Appendix 5.

2. Monitoring results

Documented results of salinity measurements at each point include:

- Documents commented on by the head of the unit;

- Explanation of documents (purpose, description of natural features, activities affecting monitoring, implementation of regulations, document rectification work, conclusions and recommendations);

- Diagram of the measurement points;

- Charts, analysis, and calculation of salinity;

- Tables of related factors: water level, rainfall, weather phenomena;

- Relationship diagrams of salinity and water level.

Comprehensive documents of salinity measurement results on the river system include:

- Documents commented on by the head of the unit;

- Explanation of documents (overview of the survey situation, description of natural features of the river section, summary of the network of measurement points, implementation of regulations, conclusions, and recommendations);

- Diagram of the measurement points on the same river;

- Characteristic salinity measurement tables;

- Relationship diagrams of salinity and water level;

- Development of a salinity boundary map (if monitoring over a very large area with a high density of measurement points).
