Vietnam: Regulations on the level of study and zoning of iron resource level 333

The level of study and zoning of iron resource level 333 is stipulated in Circular 33/2010/TT-BTNMT on exploration, classification of reserves, and resources of iron ore mines, issued by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam.

Article 10 Circular 33/2010/TT-BTNMT stipulates the requirements for the level of study and zoning of iron resource level 333 in Vietnam as follows:

1. Level of geological study and zoning of resource level

- The basic features of the shape, attitude, and distribution of the iron ore bodies must be determined;

- Preliminary determination of the thickness, structure, and stability of the iron ore bodies is required;

- The quality of iron ore must be preliminarily determined based on sampling results from natural exposures, clean-up works, trenches, pits, drilling, or inferred from adjacent areas with more detailed geological study;

- Natural factors determining the mining conditions are not required to be studied in detail but should primarily be preliminarily understood and taken similarly to adjacent areas with more detailed study.

2. Zoning of limit to calculate resource

- The limit to calculate the resource level 333 is delineated within the scope of exploration works that meet the resource estimation criteria and are allowed to be extrapolated according to the boundaries of favorable geological structures and rock formations as per geophysical data combined with some drilling and mining works or from the resource at the higher level.

3. Level of study of investment in mine construction and degree of economic efficiency

An investment study for mine construction has not been conducted, and the feasibility of economically mining and processing iron ore from this resource has not been determined at the time of assessment.

More details can be found in Circular 33/2010/TT-BTNMT effective from January 28, 2011.
