Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam issued Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT on the Regulation of Master’s Training.
Vietnam: Regulations on eligible candidates taking the entrance exam for master's programs (Illustrative Photo)
Under the Regulation on Master's Training issued with Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT, the candidates taking the entrance exam for master's programs in Vietnam are citizens of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam who meet the following eligibility requirements:
1. Regarding degrees:
- Have a Bachelor's degree in the same or appropriate major with the major or specialty registered for the entrance exam for master's programs as prescribed;
- Have a Bachelor's degree in a closely related major with the major or specialty registered for the entrance exam for master's programs as prescribed in Clause 2, Article 6 and have taken supplementary courses as prescribed in Article 7 of this Regulation;
- Graduates holding a Bachelor's degree in certain other majors prescribed in Clauses 3 and 4, Article 6 of this Regulation can register for the major or specialty in the entrance exam for master's programs after taking supplementary courses as per Article 7 of this Regulation;
- Bachelor's degrees awarded by foreign educational institutions must undergo the recognition procedure as per current regulations;
- Based on the eligibility requirements of the training institution and the major or specialty, the head of the training institution specifies the requirements on degrees for the candidates.
2. Regarding professional experience: Depending on the requirements of each training major or specialty and the proposal of the academic council, the head of the training institution in Vietnam specifies the requirements regarding the time of professional work to accumulate practical experience before registering for the examination.
If candidates with a degree in a different major register for the exam in management-related majors, they must have at least 2 (two) years of work experience in the major they are registering for.
3. Candidates' personal background must be clear, not currently under disciplinary action from the level of a warning or higher, and not currently under criminal prosecution, confirmed by the personnel management agency where they are working or the local government where they reside.
4. Candidates must have adequate health for studying. For biological children of individuals who participated in the resistance and were exposed to toxic chemicals, as stipulated in Point e, Clause 1, Article 9 of this Regulation, the head of the training institution will consider and decide on allowing them to enroll based on their health status and the requirements of the study program.
5. Candidates have submitted the required documents fully and timely according to the regulations of the training institution.
