Vietnam: Promulgating permissible levels of chemicals intended for environmental treatment in aquaculture

Recently, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam issued Circular No. 08/2019/TT-BNNPTNT on promulgation of the National technical regulation on environmental treating products in aquaculture.

Permissible levels of chemicals intended for environmental treatment in aquaculture are specified in Table 2 of the National technical regulation on environmental treating products in aquaculture Part 1: Chemical, biological products. Code: QCVN 02-32 - 1: 2019/BNNPTNT promulgated together with Circular No. 08/2019/TT-BNNPTNT of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam. To be specific:

Table 1: Permissible levels

1	Calcium hypochlorite	Active chlorine: 65% by weight	Arsenic (As): 5 mg/kg Lead (Pb): 30 mg/kg
2	Sodium hypochlorite	Active chlorine: 5% by weight
3	Formaldehyde	Formaldehyde: 34% by weight
4	Glutaraldehyde	Glutaraldehyde: 15% by weight
5	Benzalkonium chloride	Benzalkonium chloride: 50% by weight
6	Povidone – iodine	Iodide: 10% by weight for dry iodide. Iodide: 1% by weight for iodide solution.
7	Potassium permanganate	Potassium permanganate: 99.1% by weight
8	Trichloroisocyanuric acid	Active chlorine: 5% by weight

Other chemicals on the List of chemicals, biological products, microorganisms and ingredients contained ingredients in aquaculture feed permitted for use in aquaculture in Vietnam must comply with the maximum levels set out in Table 1.

Relevant provisions can be found in Circular No. 08/2019/TT-BNNPTNT of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, which takes effect from January 01, 2020.
