Under Circular 56/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, intermediate-level general mechanical in Vietnam is a discipline or profession that performs the tasks of operating and maintaining types of machines: freight lifts, overhead cranes, gantry cranes, mobile cranes, and other related machinery to carry out the loading and unloading of goods according to specialized technical standards, ensuring labor productivity, technical safety, environmental sanitation, and timely meeting the level 4 requirements in the Vietnamese Qualifications Framework. The knowledge required for graduates from intermediate-level general mechanical in Vietnam is specified as follows:

- Present the structure and operational principles of freight lifts, overhead cranes, gantry cranes, and mobile cranes;

- Explain the concepts, classifications, properties, and labeling conventions of goods;

- Describe the structure and operational principles of freight lifts, overhead cranes, gantry cranes, and mobile cranes;

- Analyze some causes of damage, methods of inspection, and repair of common damages of freight lifts, overhead cranes, gantry cranes, and mobile cranes;

- Describe the uses, classifications, storage methods, and use of materials used in loading and unloading;

- Explain the regular maintenance and periodic maintenance procedures for freight lifts, overhead cranes, gantry cranes, and mobile cranes;

- Explain the operation methods of freight lifts, overhead cranes, gantry cranes, and mobile cranes;

- Discuss common incidents and troubleshooting measures during loading and unloading operations;

- Explain labor safety and hygiene regulations;

- Explain basic knowledge about environmental protection, efficient use of energy and resources;

- Explain basic knowledge regarding politics, culture, society, law, national defense and security, and physical education as per regulations.
