Vietnam: Knowledge required for graduates from college-level mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering

On December 28, 2018, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in Vietnam issued Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulating the minimum knowledge and competency requirements for graduates at intermediate and college levels for disciplines and professions in the mining engineering and other engineering fields.

Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulates that graduates from college-level mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering in Vietnam must possess the following knowledge:

- Explain the structure, working principle, mechanical characteristics, starting methods, speed control methods, and be able to read schematic diagrams of direct current machines, alternating current machines, and inverters used in mining technology;

- Present the methods and conditions for implementing maintenance, repair, installation, connection, winding, impregnation, drying, and recovery of electric motors with power up to 45 kW according to technical requirements;

- Explain the structure, working principle, and usage scope of mine electrical equipment: ventilation fans, mine electric locomotives, winches, conveyors, belts, tipping carriages, water pumps, air compressors, mucking conveyors, loaders, tunneling machines, coal shearers, and drilling devices;

- Present the methods to set up inverters, soft starters for the automatic control of conveyor systems, pump stations, and ventilation stations;

- Describe advanced repair methods and techniques for mine electrical equipment; propose effective solutions to resolve issues;

- Present the planning and measures for replacing and repairing mine electrical equipment in underground mining production lines;

- Analyze the causes of common electrical system failures and production line equipment issues in underground mines;

- Analyze the utility, structure, working principle, and technical characteristics of cutting devices, explosion-proof protection devices, and controlled and automatic safety devices in underground mining production technology;

- Describe how to read electrical diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and hydraulic diagrams of mining equipment;

- Present how to develop automated control programs for transportation, ventilation, mine gas monitoring, and mine dewatering systems;

- Apply basic technical, economic, and productivity knowledge, and actively adapt to production work in mines;

- Present the organization of production in mines and the work nature of mechanical-electrical workers in production lines;

- Identify how to design the installation, connection, and operation processes of mine electrical equipment and underground electrical supply procedures;

- Identify how to design the operation process of automatic control systems in transportation, ventilation, gas monitoring, and underground mine dewatering technology;

- Present the technical safety work contents, basic mine rescue work contents;

- Identify methods to establish replacement plans to enhance lifespan and ensure economic and technical efficiency in using and operating electrical cables;

- Describe how to develop plans, install, repair, and operate the lighting system in underground mines;

- Analyze how to organize and rationally manage production, arrange and plan to inspect safety measures, and improve working conditions;

- Present basic knowledge regarding politics, culture, society, law, national defense, and physical education as required by regulations.
