From February 10, 2019, Circular 47/2018/TT-BLDTBXH issued by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs of Vietnam on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate (Level 4 of VQF) and college (Level 5 of VQF) levels in mechanical engineering sectors will come into force.

According to the regulation on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate and college levels in Ship engine repair issued together with Circular 47/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, graduates of Ship engine repair, Level 5 of VQF in Vietnam will have the competency to meet the requirements in the job positions in the field, including:
- Repair of marine engines;
- Assembly of marine engines;
- Repair and assembly of power transmission systems;
- Repair and assembly of marine electrical systems;
- Repair and assembly of auxiliary equipment on ships;
- Technical officer on ships.
Additionally, the capability for learners to study and improve their competence is regulated as follows:
- The minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates of Ship engine repair, Level 5 of VQF can continue to be developed at higher levels;
- Graduates may self-learn and self-update scientific and technological advancements within the major to improve their competency or pursue further qualifications within the group of majors, or in the same training field.
