Vietnam: Introduction to Ship engine repair, Level 5 of VQF

On December 28, 2018, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam issued Circular 47/2018/TT-BLDTBXH on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate (Level 4 of VQF) and college (Level 5 of VQF) levels in mechanical engineering sectors.

According to the regulation on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate and college levels in Ship engine repair issued together with Circular 47/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, Ship engine repair, Level 5 of VQF in Vietnam is defined as a profession in which practitioners perform tasks such as repairing, maintaining, and assembling marine engines; repairing, maintaining, and assembling power transmission systems, marine engine electrical systems, auxiliary equipment systems, and various other related equipment on ships... meeting technical standards, ensuring labor productivity, technical safety, environmental hygiene, and completing tasks timely to meet requirements for Level 5 of the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.

The tasks in this profession are primarily carried out at shipbuilding and repair companies, enterprises, mechanical and shipbuilding mechanical production and business facilities. Working conditions and environments include both workshops and ship slips, onboard ships, using primary materials such as machine parts, oil, greases, and essential materials for the job... This profession requires high technical standards, and operates in noisy and industrial dust environments, with high work intensity according to the schedule and product volume.

The main equipment and tools used in the profession include lifting devices, hoisting equipment, transportation means, tube bending equipment, straightening, metal cutting, marking tools, inspection, repair, assembly tools, specialized equipment, and common and safety assurance tools.

To practice, employees in Vietnam must have good health, practical knowledge, extensive theoretical knowledge about the field and occupation, and professional skills that meet job position requirements; and possess creativity.

Minimum knowledge volume: 2,350 hours (equivalent to 84 credits).
