Vietnam: Introduction to Ship engine repair, Level 4 of VQF

Circular 47/2018/TT-BLDTBXH issued by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs of Vietnam on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate (Level 4 of VQF) and college (Level 5 of VQF) levels in mechanical engineering sectors will come into force from February 10, 2019.

According to the regulation on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate and college levels in Ship engine repair issued together with Circular 47/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, Ship engine repair, Level 4 of VQF is defined as a profession in which practitioners perform tasks such as repairing, maintaining, and assembling marine engines; repairing, maintaining, and assembling the power transmission systems, electrical systems of marine engines, auxiliary equipment systems, and other related equipment on ships, meeting the requirements for level 4 of the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.

The tasks in this profession are primarily carried out at shipbuilding and repair companies, enterprises, mechanical and shipbuilding production, and trading facilities. The working conditions and environments include workshops, slipways, under ships, using materials such as machinery parts, oil, grease, and essential materials for work... This profession requires high technical standards, and operates in noisy and industrial dust environments, with high work intensity according to the schedule and product volume. The main tools and equipment used in this profession include cranes, hoisting equipment, transportation means, pipe bending equipment, metal straightening and cutting equipment, marking tools, inspection, repair, and assembly tools, specialized and general tools, and safety assurance equipment.

To practice, employees need to have good health, practical knowledge, extensive theoretical knowledge of the profession, and professional skills suitable for the job position; the ability to be creative and apply modern techniques and technologies to their work, guide and supervise others in the group performing the tasks, work independently or in groups in changing work conditions, and take personal and group responsibilities.

Minimum knowledge volume: 1,600 hours (equivalent to 57 credits).
