Vietnam: Introduction to Physical therapy and rehabilitation technology, Level 5 of VQF

On December 28, 2018, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs of Vietnam issued Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate (Level 4 of VQF) and college (Level 5 of VQF) levels in health and social service sectors.

According to the regulation on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate and college levels in Physical therapy and rehabilitation technology issued together with Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, Physical therapy and rehabilitation technology, Level 5 of VQF in Vietnam is a profession specialized in modern medical techniques, applying methods of physical therapy and non-medication treatments in the process of treating patients, meeting level 5 requirements in the National Qualification Framework of Vietnam.

The basic techniques used in the industry of rehabilitation include: therapeutic exercise, occupational therapy, electrotherapy, thermotherapy, phototherapy, massage therapy, traction therapy, etc. Currently, physical therapy and rehabilitation techniques are very popular and are chosen for treating patients to aid their functional recovery.

The industry of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation has two main areas of work: Physical Therapy Rehabilitation and Occupational Therapy Rehabilitation. Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Technicians, upon graduation from Physical therapy and rehabilitation technology, Level 5 of VQF in Vietnam can work in hospitals, nursing centers – rehabilitation centers; orthopedic – rehabilitation centers, clinics, and both state and private healthcare facilities.

The minimum knowledge volume specified for Physical therapy and rehabilitation technology, Level 5 of VQF in Vietnam  is 2,500 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).
