Vietnam: Introduction to Medical Imaging Equipment Engineering, Level 5 of VQF

On December 28, 2018, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs of Vietnam issued Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate (Level 4 of VQF) and college (Level 5 of VQF) levels in health and social service sectors.

According to the regulation on the minimum knowledge volume and required competencies for graduates from intermediate and college levels in Medical Imaging Equipment Engineering issued together with Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, Medical Imaging Equipment Engineering, Level 5 of VQF in Vietnam is a profession involving the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and management of specialized diagnostic imaging machines, meeting requirements of level 5 in the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.

These are modern devices with high accuracy. They use radiation waves or physical interventions into the patient's body, such as X-ray machines, ultrasound, CT... or use auxiliary chemicals for image printing, such as film washing machines, and film printers. Therefore, there are very stringent safety requirements, necessitating strict and comprehensive adherence to labor protection, industrial hygiene policies, and diligent implementation of electrical safety and radiation safety principles.

Medical Imaging Equipment Engineers have capabilities such as: supervising or directly participating in installing and deploying investment projects for diagnostic imaging equipment provided to healthcare facilities; operating, and guiding the use of machines; maintaining, and controlling the machine use process according to equipment management procedures; repairing as per trained competencies; conducting research, organizing auxiliary equipment to optimize the room setup; advising on technical solutions, investment in equipment, and enhancing machine longevity.

Additionally, professionals as graduates of Medical Imaging Equipment Engineering, Level 5 of VQF in Vietnam can assume positions in the maintenance and repair of diagnostic imaging equipment at public or private healthcare facilities; and installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment for image equipment manufacturing and trading units.

Furthermore, the minimum knowledge volume required for graduates of Medical Imaging Equipment Engineering, Level 5 of VQF in Vietnam is 2,500 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).
