Under Circular 56/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, college-level navigation in Vietnam is a discipline or profession that involves the operation and usage of all systems and equipment on the ship, maritime support devices, and related Codes in the Field of Maritime Navigation, as well as regulations of Vietnam and international regulations to ensure safety, security for the ship, people and cargo, economic efficiency, and marine environmental protection throughout the operational process, meeting the level 5 requirements in the Vietnamese Qualifications Framework. Therefore, graduates from college-level navigation in Vietnam are competent to meet the requirements of job positions, including:
- ordinary seaman (OS);
- watchstanding able seaman (AB);
- bosun’s mate;
- bosun;
- mate 3 for ships under 500GT;
- mate 3 for ships over 500GT;
- mate 2 for ships under 500GT;
- mate 2 for ships over 500GT;
- Chief Officer for ships under 500GT;
- Chief Officer for ships from 500GT to under 3000GT;
- Master for ships under 500GT.
