Vietnam: From January 10, 2023, Ho Chi Minh City bans sleeper buses from operating in the inner city

(Chinhphu.vn) - From January 10, Ho Chi Minh City bans sleeper buses from operating in the inner city to minimize the risk of traffic congestion.

From  January  10,  2023,  Ho  Chi  Minh  City  bans  sleeper  buses  from  entering  the  inner  city

The ring road that sleeper buses are banned from operating in the inner city from January 10, 2023.

Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Bui Xuan Cuong has recently signed Document 5088/UBND-DT regarding traffic organization for sleeper buses within the city.

To minimize the risk of traffic congestion and traffic accidents related to passenger buses, and to limit the situation of picking up and dropping off passengers at unauthorized places within the city, the People's Committee of HCMC agrees with the plan to ban sleeper buses from entering the inner city from January 10, 2023, proposed by the Department of Transport.

According to this plan, sleeper buses are banned from operating in the inner city area bounded by the following ring road: National Highway 1 - Nguyen Van Linh Street - Vo Chi Cong Street - Nguyen Thi Dinh Street - Dong Van Cong Street - Mai Chi Tho Street - Hanoi Highway - National Highway 1. The ban is effective from 6 AM to 10 PM.

Sleeper buses are allowed to freely circulate at all times in the two corridors leading to the Mien Tay bus station and Mien Dong bus station:

Corridor to Mien Tay bus station: National Highway 1 → Kinh Duong Vuong Street → Mien Tay bus station and vice versa.

Corridor to Mien Dong bus station: National Highway 1 → National Highway 13 → Dinh Bo Linh Street → Mien Dong bus station → National Highway 13 → National Highway 1.

The People's Committee of HCMC assigns the Department of Transport to regularly monitor and evaluate the implementation situation to have a flexible and promptly organized traffic plan, suitable to the practical conditions of HCMC.

Additionally, cooperate with the Department of Information and Communications, the City Traffic Safety Committee, and the People's Committees of districts, wards, and Thu Duc City to organize widespread information dissemination to all citizens and passenger transport businesses about the above-mentioned traffic organization plan.

The People's Committee of HCMC assigns the City Police to direct the functional forces to enhance patrol and control over the operation of sleeper buses within the city, detect and strictly handle any violations of traffic safety, especially the acts of unauthorized stopping, parking, picking up, and dropping off passengers.
