This is a notable content of the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention, issued by the National Assembly of Vietnam on June 18, 2012.
According to Article 24 of the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention of Vietnam, three years after this Law takes effect, the number of cigarettes in a pack must not be fewer than 20, except for cigars and cigarettes manufactured for export.
Concurrently, tobacco manufactured or imported for sale in Vietnam must comply with the national technical regulations on tobacco and standards announced by manufacturers. Tobacco manufacturers and importers must:
- Announce their own standards of tobacco;
- Guarantee that tobacco they manufacture or import comply with the national technical regulations and their announced standards;
- Regularly examine and bear responsibility for the conformity of tobacco manufactured or imported with the national technical regulations and the standards announced.
Note: The Minister of Health of Vietnam shall promulgate national technical regulations on tobacco.
Moreover, this Law also stipulates that tobacco sale must satisfy the following requirements:
- Enterprises, wholesale agents and retail agents must have tobacco sale licenses according to the Government's regulations;
- Persons in charge of the tobacco counters of wholesale or retail agents must put up notice boards saying "We don’t sell tobacco to anyone under the age of 18"; tobacco agents and counters must not display more than one pack, one carton or one box for a brand name of tobacco.
