On April 17, 2014, the Ministry of Justice of Vietnam issued Circular 11/2014/TT-BTP on the assurance of gender equality in legal aid.
Vietnam: Formulation and implementation of the Plan for assurance of gender equality in legal aid (Illustration)
According to Circular 11/2014/TT-BTP, based on the results of identifying and analyzing gender issues as prescribed, the legal aid-providing organization in Vietnam shall formulate and implement a Plan for assurance of gender equality in legal aid by integrating it into the annual Legal Aid Provision Plan and other programs and plans. The gender content to be integrated in formulating and implementing the Plan in Vietnam includes:
- Information and communication work about the rights of people receiving legal aid related to gender equality; domestic violence prevention and combat; human trafficking prevention and combat; and prevention and combat of sexual abuse;
- Development of the organizational structure and team of legal aid-providing persons in accordance with the provisions of Article 6 of this Circular;
- Organization of training to improve the quality of human resources executing legal aid work of their organization;
- Attraction of the participation of both men and women in formulating the Legal Aid Provision Pla and in monitoring, assessing, supervising, and inspecting the implementation of that Plan
- Development and expansion of pilot models to assure gender equality in legal aid suitable to the characteristics of their organization;
- Determination of the responsibilities of relevant agencies, organizations, and individuals; the coordination between agencies, organizations, and individuals in organizing the implementation and ensuring resources for implementing the Plan after it is approved.
