Vietnam: Football betting is allowed for the World Cup 2018

According to Decision No. 1064/QD-BVHTTDL, the FIFA World Cup 2018, which will take place on June 14th, is also included in the list of football tournaments allowed for betting.

According to Clause 2 Article 6 of Decree No. 06/2017/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government, the matches/tournaments being the basis for betting business shall be international football matches/tournaments announced and approved by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Thus, during the World Cup 2018, viewers are officially allowed to participate in football betting at licensed betting businesses without being considered in violation and without being subject to penalties if they meet the following conditions:

- Bettors shall be at least 21 years old and have fully legal capacity as prescribed by law and not be in any of the persons not allowed to place bets as specified in Clause 2 Article 7 of Decree No. 06/2017/ND-CP.

- Each wager must not be less than VND 10,000. Each wager on each type of bet through a bet-organizing enterprise must not exceed VND 1,000,000 (one million dong).

- Any bettor wishing to place bets via telephones (landline phone or mobile phone) shall have a betting account registered with the bet-organizing enterprise.

Notably, the betting businesses where players are allowed to place bets must be established in accordance with provisions of Articles 38, 39 and 40 of Decree No. 06/2017/ND-CP.
