On September 9, 2014, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam issued Circular 52/2014/TT-BTNMT on the classification of reserves and resources for natural mineral water and natural hot water.
Criteria and indicators for determining the mineral content of natural mineral water and hot water sources (illustration)
Circular 52/2014/TT-BTNMT stipulates the criteria and indices for determining the designation of mineral water and natural hot water sources as per the following table:
No | Criteria | Content | Designation |
1 | Total dissolved solids (TDS) | < 50 mg/l ≥ 50 - 500 mg/l > 500 - 15000 mg/l > 1500 mg/l |
Very low mineralized water Low mineralized water Medium mineralized water High mineralized water |
2 | Free dissolved CO2 | ≥ 500 mg/l | Carbonated mineral water |
3 | Total content (H2S + HS^-) | ≥ 1 mg/l | Sulfur mineral water |
4 | Content (H2SiO3^+^) | ≥ 50 mg/l | Silica mineral water |
5 | Content (Fe^2+^ + Fe^3+^) | ≥ 10 mg/l | Iron mineral water |
6 | Content (F^-^) | ≥ 1.5 mg/l | Fluoride mineral water |
7 | Arsenic content (As^-) | ≥ 0.7 mg/l | Arsenic mineral water |
8 | Bromine content (Br^-) | ≥ 5 mg/l | Bromine mineral water |
9 | Iodine content (I^-) | ≥ 1 mg/l | Iodine mineral water |
10 | Radon content (Rn) | > 1 nCi/l | Radon mineral water |
11 | Radium content (Ra) | > 10^-11^ g/l | Radium mineral water |
12 | Temperature | ≥ 30°C | Hot water |
More details can be found in Circular 52/2014/TT-BTNMT of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam, effective from October 27, 2014.
