Recently, the Ministry of Health of Vietnam has issued the Circular No. 50/2014/TT-BYT on the classification of surgeries, medical procedures and personnel norms applied to every operation, medical procedure. This Circular has specified classification of surgeries, medical procedures.
Specifically, according to Article 3 of the Circular No. 50/2014/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, classification of surgeries, medical procedures are as follows:
1. Special surgeries, medical procedures
- Special surgeries, medical procedures are very complicated, life-threatening, requiring high professional qualifications and techniques from the health practitioners, and are mostly carried out at central-level health facilities.
- Specialized medical utilities, tools, equipment are required.
- The number of people involving in surgeries, medical procedures specified in Appendix 01 herein is required.
- The average duration is 3 – 4 hours or longer.
2. Class-I surgeries, medical procedures
- Class-I surgeries, medical procedures are relatively complicated , life-threatening, requiring high professional qualifications, techniques from the health practitioners, mostly carried out at central- and provincial-level health facilities.
- Specialized medical utilities, tools, equipment are required.
- The number of people involving in surgeries, medical procedures specified in Appendix 01 herein is required.
- The average duration is 2 – 3 hours or longer.
3. Class-II surgeries, medical procedures
- Class-II surgeries, medical procedures are mostly carried out at central-level and provincial-level health facilities and some selected district-level health facilities. Surgeries and procedures of Class II are less dangerous to patients’ life than those of Class I.
- Only common medical utilities, tools, equipment are required.
- The number of people involving in surgeries, medical procedures specified in Appendix 01 herein is required.
- The average duration is 1 – 3 hours or longer.
4. Class-III surgeries, medical procedures
- Class-III surgeries, medical procedures are mostly carried out at district-level health facilities. Class-III surgeries and medical procedures are less dangerous to patients’ life than those of Class II.
- Only common medical utilities, tools, equipment are required.
- The number of people involving in surgeries, medical procedures specified in Appendix 01 herein.
- The average duration is 1 – 2 hours or longer.
