Vietnam: Benefits for social insurance and health insurance for workers will be increased from July 01, 2019

Employees will receive more benefits regarding social insurance and health insurance from July 01, 2019, because the statutory pay rate was increased to 1.49 million VND on this date.

The table below outlines the increased social insurance and health insurance benefits for employees:

3 Female employees giving birth, or employees adopting a child under 6 months old, are entitled to a one-time allowance for each child equal to 2 times the statutory pay rate in the month of childbirth or the month of adoption. Therefore, female employees giving birth from July 1, 2019, onwards will receive 2,980,000 VND for each child (current rate is 2,780,000 VND). Article 38 of the Social Insurance Law 2014
4 Female employees giving birth but only the husband participates in social insurance, the husband will receive a one-time allowance of 2,980,000 VND (current rate is 2,780,000 VND) for each child. Article 38 of the Social Insurance Law 2014
5 One-time allowance for employees with a reduction in working capacity from 5% to 30%: A 5% reduction in working capacity is entitled to 7,450,000 VND, equivalent to 5 times the statutory pay rate; thereafter, for each additional 1% reduction, an additional 745,000 VND will be received, equivalent to 0.5 times the statutory pay rate. 6 Monthly allowance for employees with a reduction in working capacity from 31% or more: A 31% reduction in working capacity is entitled to 447,000 VND, equivalent to 30% of the statutory pay rate; thereafter, for each additional 1% reduction, an additional 29,800 VND will be received, equivalent to 2% of the statutory pay rate. 7 One-time allowance when dying due to occupational accident or occupational disease is 53,460,000 VND, equivalent to 36 times the statutory pay rate. Article 52 of the Occupational Safety and Health Law 2015
8 Allowance for convalescence and health recovery after treatment of injuries or diseases: A daily amount of 372,500 VND if convalescing and recovering at home; 596,000 VND if convalescing and recovering at a concentrated facility. Clause 3 Article 54 of the Occupational Safety and Health Law 2015
9 Funeral allowance of 14,900,000 VND, equivalent to 10 times the statutory pay rate. Clause 2 Article 66 of the Social Insurance Law 2014 of Vietnam
10 Monthly survivor allowance for each relative is 745,000 VND, equivalent to 50% of the statutory pay rate; in case the relative has no direct care provider, the monthly survivor allowance is 1,043,000 VND, equivalent to 70% of the statutory pay rate. 11 The minimum monthly pension that employees are entitled to is 1,490,000 VND. Clause 5 Article 56 of the Social Insurance Law 2014
12 100% reimbursement of medical examination and treatment costs if participating in health insurance for 5 consecutive years and having co-payment costs in the year exceeding 8,940,000 VND (current rate is 8,340,000 VND). Point e Clause 1 Article 14 of Decree 146/2018/ND-CP
13 100% reimbursement of medical examination and treatment costs if the cost per examination or treatment is less than 223,500 VND (currently 208,500 VND). Point d Clause 1 Article 14 of Decree 146/2018/ND-CP of Vietnam's Government
