Vietnam: A fine of VND 300,000 will be imposed on a person who sarcastically mocks his neighbor for giving birth to a girl

Specifically, criticism and sarcasm are considered acts of offending the people that have only girls, which shall carry a fine of from VND 100,000 to VND 300,000 as prescribed in Point b Clause 1 Article 85 of Decree No. 176/2013/ND-CP of Vietnam’s Government:

Article 85. Obstruction or enforcement of birth control

1. Any of the following violations shall carry a warning or fine of from 100,000 VND to 300,000 VND:

a) Failure to provide complementary birth control instruments for eligible individuals as prescribed by law;

b) Verbally or physically offending the people that practice birth control or the people that have only boys or only girls.

Besides, this fine is also imposed for failure to provide complementary birth control instruments for eligible individuals.

Entities eligible for complementary birth control instruments are stipulated in Decision No. 818/QĐ-BYT of the Ministry of Health of Vietnam approving the Project on socialization of contraceptive provision and family planning/reproductive health services. Currently, the state only supports and provides free contraceptives to poor households, near-poor households, ethnic minorities, policy beneficiaries, and people in extremely difficult communes and remote areas. The remaining subjects will change their behavior from "subsidized and free" to "buy and sell" in accordance with the user's ability to pay and conditions.

The above regulations have contributed to protecting gender equality and limiting the ideology of male superiority in today's society.
