Vietnam: 05 contents of establishment of national geographical space data infrastructure from January 01, 2019

Specifically, according to the Law on Topography and Cartography 2018 of Vietnam, national geographical space data infrastructure means a collection of policies, regulatory and institutional framework, standards, technologies, data and human resources for the purpose of sharing and using efficiently geographical space data throughout the country. Establishment of national geographical space data infrastructure includes:

- Designing a strategy development and plan for establishment of national geographical space data infrastructure;

- Formulating a policy and creating resources for implementing the strategy or plan for development of national geographical space data infrastructure;

- Selecting and developing technologies and establishing technical standards and regulations in respect of national geographical space data infrastructure;

- Establishing and integrating geographical space data;

- Establishing and operating Vietnam geographical space portal and geographical space data applications or services.

Note: The Prime Minister of Vietnam shall preside over and coordinate the establishment of national geographical space data infrastructure.

Besides, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam shall take responsibility to:

- preside over and cooperate with ministries, ministerial agencies, Governmental agencies and People’s Committees of provinces in submitting the development strategy and plan for establishment of national geographical space data infrastructure to the Government for approval.

- preside over and cooperate with ministries, ministerial agencies, Governmental agencies and People’s Committees of provinces in integrating national geographical space data, establish and operate Vietnam geographical space portal.

Ministries, ministerial agencies, Governmental agencies and People’s Committees of provinces shall implement development strategy and plan for establishment of national geographical space data infrastructure as authorized.
