Unauthorized tourism in the marine protected area fined up to VND 70 million

Recently, the Government of Vietnam has signed and issued Decree 42/2019/ND-CP stipulating the administrative penalties for violations in the fisheries sector.

According to Decree 42/2019/ND-CP, a fine ranging from VND 50,000,000 to VND 70,000,000 shall be imposed for any of the following violations in the buffer zone of marine protected areas:

- Unauthorized buoy deployment;- Conducting investigations or scientific research without approval from competent state authorities;- Unauthorized operation of fishing vessels, sea vessels, and other watercraft;- Organizing unauthorized service and tourism activities;- Unauthorized construction of infrastructure projects;- Unauthorized aquaculture and fishing activities.

Additionally, for the violation of unauthorized construction of infrastructure in the marine protected area, the violator is obliged to restore the original state of the marine protected area.

Refer to the related regulations in Decree 42/2019/ND-CP effective from July 5, 2019.
