To delay school start times for students at all levels in HCMC, Vietnam

On October 31, 2022, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City issued Official Dispatch 4155/SGDDT-CTTT on reviewing and adjusting school hours at educational establishments in the area.

The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City proposes to review and adjust the first class start time as follows:

+ School start time for preschool and elementary school does not start earlier than 7:30 a.m.;

+ Junior high school start time does not start earlier than 7:15 a.m.;

+ School start time for high school does not start earlier than 7am.

At the same time, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City requires the school to develop a plan to open the school to welcome students at 6:30 a.m., not allowing students to go to school late or leave early to gather in the area in front of the school gate.

Heads of school units are responsible for developing solutions for different shifts and different school hours for all grades and levels in the school, arranging the number of lessons per lesson and the number of lessons per week for children and students at the unit according to the time frame as above, but must ensure the full number of lessons and curriculum according to regulations, ensuring the health of children, students, and workers at the unit.

In particular, time frames must ensure clear traffic in front of and around the school during peak hours.
