Titles and Ranks Eligible for High-Level State Funerals

This is a notable content stipulated in Circular 86/2016/TT-BQP issued by the Ministry of National Defense on June 20, 2016.

Circular 86 stipulates that military officers who are currently in office, have left office, or retired and held one of the following positions or ranks, if they die or are killed, will be organized a High-level Funeral (if not eligible for a State Funeral), including:

- Minister, Chairman of the General Political Department; Chief of General Staff; Deputy Minister of National Defense; Colonel General, Admiral;- Member of the Party Central Committee (including Alternate Members), Member of the Central Military Commission;- Deputy Chief of General Staff; Deputy Chairman of the General Political Department;- Chairman, Political Commissar, Deputy Chairman, Deputy Political Commissar of General Departments; General Department Director, Political Commissar, Deputy General Department Director, Deputy Political Commissar of General Department II;- Commander, Political Commissar, Deputy Commander, Deputy Political Commissar of Military Regions, Services, Border Defense Force;- Director, Political Commissar, Deputy Director, Deputy Political Commissar of the National Defense Academy;- Lieutenant General, Vice Admiral, Major General, Rear Admiral;

Additionally, Circular 86 also stipulates that revolutionary officers active before January 1, 1945 (veteran revolutionary officers), officers active in the South throughout the resistance period against the US (1954 - 1975) who were awarded the First Class Independence Order or higher; outstanding social, cultural, and scientific activists (awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize - individual prize) and awarded the First Class Independence Order or higher; outstanding social, cultural, and scientific activists (awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize - individual prize) who are Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labor Heroes.
