The Social Insurance Benefits for Employees Suffering from Illness in Vietnam

Social insurance (SI) benefits for employees participating in SI who are sick or have an accident are regulated as follows:

  1. Workers suffering from illness (not long-term):
Workers suffering from illness Paid Social Insurance under 15 years Paid Social Insurance sufficiently 15 - under 30 years Paid Social Insurance ≥ 30 years
Normal working conditions 30 days 40 days 60 days
Working conditions with hazardous, toxic, dangerous elements, Regional allowance 0.7 or higher 40 days 50 days 70 days

  1. Workers suffering from long-term illnesses requiring treatment

After 180 days but still sick, will continue to be entitled but not exceeding the social insurance contribution period.

- t = 50% if paid social insurance under 15 years;- t = 55% if paid social insurance from 15 years to under 30 years;- t = 65% if paid social insurance over 30 years.

  1. Workers taking leave to care for sick children under 7 years old

- 20 working days if the child is under 3 years old;

- 15 working days if the child is from 3 to under 7 years old

  1. Post-illness recuperation and health recovery:

Workers who have enjoyed illness policies for at least 30 days or more in a year, within 30 days since returning to work if health has not yet recovered.

  Duration of benefits Daily benefit = 30% statutory pay rate
Long-term illness 10 days
Illness requiring surgery 7 days
Other cases 5 days
