On March 25, 2024, the Prime Minister issued Official Telegram 25/CD-TTg on enhancement of tuberculosis prevention and control work in Vietnam.
To control tuberculosis and achieve the objectives of the National Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Strategy, the Prime Minister requests:
(1) Ministries, central agencies, and local authorities:
- Continue to implement the National Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Strategy until 2020 and the vision until 2030, issued with Decision 374/QD-TTg on March 17, 2014, by the Prime Minister, as well as the directives of the Government and the Prime Minister regarding tuberculosis prevention and control work.
- Strengthen the communication of tuberculosis prevention and control work, which is an important and long-term task of the political system at all levels, from central to local. The healthcare sector takes the lead and focuses on primary healthcare. Recognize the burden that tuberculosis places on patients, families, communities, and society. Tuberculosis is a treatable disease.
(2) Chairpersons of People's Committees of provinces, centrally-run cities:
- Strengthen the capacity of the healthcare system (public and private) in detecting, managing, treating, and preventing tuberculosis, especially by connecting with healthcare facilities. Improve and enhance the capacity of the tuberculosis prevention and control system at the local level.
- Monitor the tuberculosis situation in the locality to timely direct the detection and treatment of tuberculosis patients. Implement effective community-based tuberculosis prevention and control measures.
- Prioritize the allocation of local budget resources for tuberculosis prevention and control work, especially in provinces with a high tuberculosis burden.
(3) Minister of Health:
- Provide professional guidance on tuberculosis prevention and control work to localities.
- Organize a review of the 10-year implementation of the National Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Strategy until 2020 and the vision until 2030. Based on this, propose to the Prime Minister the issuance of a new National Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Strategy.
- Review, develop, and update professional guidelines on tuberculosis detection, diagnosis, treatment, management, and prevention.
- Urgently complete and issue "Guidelines for implementing proactive and active detection of tuberculosis, latent tuberculosis, and certain respiratory diseases in the community and healthcare facilities."
- Strengthen international cooperation to take advantage of resources, technology, and experience to support tuberculosis prevention and control work in Vietnam.
- Enhance measures to ensure resources, especially treatment drugs, for tuberculosis prevention and control work.
(4) Minister of Information and Communications, Minister of Health; Director-General of Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam News Agency, and media agencies; Chairpersons of People's Committees of provinces, centrally-run cities: Direct media agencies to strengthen communication and publicize the burden of tuberculosis and tuberculosis prevention and control work.
(5) National Committee for Ending Tuberculosis: Enhance advisory work, propose and timely recommend measures and policies to the Government and the Prime Minister, and urge ministries, agencies, and local authorities to implement measures to end tuberculosis as soon as possible.
(6) Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations: Increase communication with members and coordinate with local authorities to effectively implement tuberculosis prevention and control measures.
