This is a notable content from Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP issued by the Ministry of Defense, stipulating the technical classification of pilots and flight crew members in the Vietnam People's Army, promulgated on October 06, 2020.

To be specific:, Article 27 of Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP regulates that pilots and aircrew members who have been graded will have their grades retained annually as follows:
- Pilots and aircrew members who do not meet the conditions to retain grades as specified in Article 26 of Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP. The retention period is 01 year from the effective date of the grade retention decision.
- Pilots and aircrew members who are sent to training at domestic and international academies and schools are allowed to retain their technical grades during their training period. After returning to their unit, they are permitted to retain their grades for an additional 01 year from the effective date of the grade retention decision.
- Military flight instructor pilots at academies and Military Corps 18, when transferred to combat units, are authorized to retain grades for 01 year for grade 3; 02 years for grade 2; and 03 years for grade 1 from the effective date of the unit transfer decision.
- Pilots from combat units who are assigned to academies and Military Corps 18 are authorized to retain grades for 01 year for grade 3; 02 years for grade 2 and 1 from the effective date of the assignment decision, (excluding training periods and the number of graduating flying cadets).
- Pilots and aircrew members working at Air Defense - Air Force Command, Navy Command, Coast Guard Command, Military Corps 18, academies, schools, and Ministry of Defense agencies are allowed to retain their technical grades as pilots and aircrew members (the said subjects will retain their grades if they participate in flight practice within the year).
- Pilots and aircrew members, when transitioning to flying a different type of aircraft or helicopter, or becoming chief pilots, are allowed to retain their technical grades for 02 years for grade 3 pilots and aircrew members; 03 years for grade 2; and 04 years for grade 1 from the effective date of the aircraft type transition decision.
