Teachers Are Only Allowed to Penalize Students by Reprimanding Them in Front of the Class

This is the content stipulated in Circular 88/TT guiding the commendation and disciplinary actions for students in general education schools.

The enforcement of disciplinary actions against high school students who commit offenses in carrying out their powers and duties includes five forms, as follows:

- Reprimand before the class;

- Reprimand before the school disciplinary council;

- Warning before the entire school;

- Suspension from school for one week;

- Suspension from school for one year.

Among the five forms of student discipline mentioned above, teachers are only allowed to apply the form of punishment as a reprimand, while the remaining forms are decided upon by the Disciplinary Council or the Principal of the school.

The form of reprimand applied by teachers to students in the following cases:

- Absence without permission for 3 or more times within a month.

- Failure to remember the lesson or do the homework, failure to prepare the lesson as required by the teacher 3 or more times within a month.

- Late attendance or going to labor activities without bringing labor tools as prescribed by the school 3 or more times within a month.

- Using vulgar language, gambling (playing the lottery), smoking cigarettes, etc.

- Committing infractions prohibited by the school, even if only once, but having a certain adverse impact on the school's comprehensive education, such as: cheating or helping friends cheat during tests, showing improper attitude or unethical behavior towards teachers, parents, friends, and those around, causing disunity among study groups, covering up or agreeing with wrong actions of friends, not reporting to the school about the wrongdoings of friends that they are aware of so the school can take preventive measures promptly, or other infractions of similar nature and severity.
