This is an important provision stipulated in Decree 23/2016/ND-CP, which took effect on May 27, 2016.
The cemeteries must be closed when there is no longer usable space, causing environmental pollution, and according to the construction planning or provincial cemetery planning that has been approved. To be specific: upon closing the cemetery, the following tasks must be performed:
- Remediate environmental pollution before closing the cemetery;- Renovate and upgrade the technical infrastructure, tombstones, and other structures within the cemetery, plant trees, and grass within and around the cemetery;- Cemeteries in urban areas or rural residential areas must have walls or green fences surrounding them with a height sufficient to ensure that the surrounding residents are not affected;- For cemeteries located along national highways, plant green trees as separation to ensure it does not affect the landscape and road users.
