This is a notable content of the Draft Law on ensuring road traffic order and safety, which is submitted to the National Assembly of Vietnam for consideration.
According to the Draft Law on ensuring road traffic order and safety of Vietnam, traffic police carry out patrol and control on road traffic to monitor, prevent, detect and handle violations of the law on road traffic order and safety, other illegal acts of people and vehicles participating in traffic; crime prevention and combat. Accordingly, the tasks of the traffic police in patrol and control include:
- Serving and helping road users to be convenient, smooth and safe; guiding, propagating and mobilizing the People to participate in ensuring road traffic order and safety and obey the law on road traffic when participating in traffic;
- Patrolling and controlling to ensure road traffic order and safety, security and order on assigned road traffic routes according to orders and plans of competent authorities;
- Detecting, timely preventing and strictly handling violations of road traffic order and safety, crimes and other violations in accordance with law;
- Taking the initiative or cooperating with units inside and outside the People's Public Security force to prevent and fight against crime and other law-breaking acts on road traffic and road vehicles and participating in the prevention of demonstrations and disturbances, rescue and settlement of fires and explosions on road traffic routes as prescribed by law;
- Detecting loopholes, omissions and inadequacies in the state management of security, order, road traffic order and safety to report, propose to competent authorities, propose relevant agencies to take timely remedial measures;
- Performing other tasks of the People's Public Security force in accordance with law.
