Superstructure of Steel-Hulled Ships: What Are the Types?

Recently, the Ministry of Transport issued Circular 15/2018/TT-BGTVT promulgating the National Technical Regulation on Classification and Building of Steel Hull Sea-going Ships - Amendment 2: 2017, registration code: Amendment 2: 2017 QCVN 21:2015/BGTVT.

To be specific, the superstructure is a structure with a deck on the freeboard deck, extending from side to side or having side walls located no more than 0.04 Bf from the ship's side edge and is classified as follows:

- Central superstructure is a superstructure that does not extend to the fore perpendicular or aft perpendicular;- Aft superstructure is a superstructure extending from the aft perpendicular forward to a point aft of the fore perpendicular. The aft superstructure may start from a point aft of the aft perpendicular;- Forward superstructure is a superstructure extending from the fore perpendicular aft to a point forward of the aft perpendicular. The forward superstructure may start from a point forward of the fore perpendicular;- Full superstructure is a superstructure extending at least from the fore perpendicular to the aft perpendicular.

Refer to the regulations on ship mass in Circular 15/2018/TT-BGTVT effective from December 1, 2018.
