Students of industrial wastewater treatment at the college level in Vietnam must complete 77 credits

On December 28, 2018, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs issued Circular 56/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulating the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation from intermediate or college levels in transportation services, environment, and security fields.

Circular 56/2018/TT-BLDTBXH regulates that industrial wastewater treatment at the college level is a field of study and work involving: Operating industrial wastewater treatment systems; maintaining and servicing equipment, industrial wastewater treatment systems; analyzing and evaluating pollutants in wastewater and monitoring the quality of discharge water; identifying and addressing issues during operation and optimizing the operation of wastewater treatment systems; organizing the installation of equipment for industrial wastewater treatment projects; providing operational guidance and technology transfer, meeting level 5 requirements in the Vietnamese National Qualification Framework. Professionals in industrial wastewater treatment work in wastewater treatment plants at industrial zones, and industrial production facilities.

To practice this profession, learners must have good health, professional ethics, sufficient specialized knowledge, and skills relevant to their job titles. Additionally, they must continuously study to improve their professional qualifications, expand their social knowledge; practice carefulness; and build a sense of professional passion.

Additionally, the minimum knowledge volume for the college-level industrial wastewater treatment sector is 1,910 hours (equivalent to 77 credits). This includes the following knowledge:

- Describe sampling methods, analyze, identify, and evaluate environmental indexes according to QCVN for each type of wastewater and relevant legal documents;

- Present principles of chemical safety, tools and equipment in laboratories, and labor safety at wastewater treatment stations;

- Explain the role of various microorganisms in wastewater treatment;

- Describe basic wastewater treatment technology processes, calculate basic parameters in wastewater treatment systems, and propose and explain treatment technologies for each specific type of wastewater;

- Inspect the technical parameters of various equipment in wastewater treatment systems;

- Explain abnormal operational parameters and propose appropriate adjustment measures;

- Analyze common incidents and damages to the infrastructure, pipeline systems, and equipment at wastewater treatment plants and propose maintenance measures;

- Describe the construction and installation process of equipment at medium and small-scale wastewater treatment projects.

- Present basic knowledge of politics, culture, society, law, national defense and security, and physical education as stipulated.
