Students Must Have a General Understanding of Military Services

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular 05/2020/TT-BGDDT Promulgating the National Defense and Security Education Program for pedagogical colleges, training colleges, and universities.

Circular 05/2020/TT-BGDDT stipulates that students studying national defense and security education must meet the following requirements:

For students of intermediate-level pedagogical schools, after completing the national defense and security education program, they must:

- Have a basic understanding of the defense and security policies and guidelines of the Communist Party and the State regarding building a whole people's defense and people's security with a love for socialism;- Be proficient in the regulations of individual military commands with firearms, understand unit formations; have a general understanding of the military branches within the Vietnam People's Army;- Have basic knowledge of military maps; know how to avoid enemy attacks with high-tech weapons.

For students after completing the national defense and security education program, they must:

- Have a basic understanding of the defense and security policies and guidelines of the Communist Party and the State regarding building a whole people's defense and people's security with a love for socialism;- Grasp basic knowledge of defense and security work in the new situation;- Be proficient in the regulations of individual military commands with firearms, understand unit formations;- Have a general understanding of the military branches within the Vietnam People's Army;- Have basic knowledge of military maps;- Know how to avoid enemy attacks with high-tech weapons;- Perform basic skills in infantry combat techniques, individual combat tactics in offensive and defensive operations, and guard duty; know how to use AK submachine guns and grenades.

In addition, Circular 05/2020/TT-BGDDT also stipulates that national defense and security education for students at intermediate pedagogical schools, colleges, universities, academies, national universities, and regional universities (hereinafter referred to as higher education institutions) is a compulsory subject.
